Saaraketha @ Salone del Gusto / Terra Madre 2012 (Turin, Italy)

Salone del Gusto / Terra Madre was held from the 25th - 29th in Turin, Italy with the participation of producers, chefs, food artisans and presenters.

Saaraketha together with Slow Food Sri Lanka were the joint coordinators of the Sri Lankan delegation which consisted of hoteliers, restaurateurs, chefs, presenters and farmers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Four slots were allocated at the Terra Madre Kitchen for Sri Lankan chefs to showcase authentic Sri Lankan cuisine with an artistic touch. Sri Lanka was also one of the four countries selected to present a native traditional variety of rice at the "Rice Taste Workshop", where a meal prepared with "Kurulu-thuda" rice from the Saaraketha heirloom rice section was presented and served to the participants of the workshop for tasting.

The president of the Slow Food Sri Lanka Convivium, who is also the chairman of Saaraketha Holdings, delivered a speech on "Revival of traditional rice varieties by strengthening the Triple Bottom Line" at the 6th Slow Food International Congress, which was loved by many congress leaders who were present at the event.

Produce such as millets, spices and heirloom rice coming from Saaraketha smallholder farmer networks were also presented at the Global Bio Diversity Area.
