Historians traced the breadfruit back to the South Pacific from is said to have made its way to countries in Oceania

Slightly sweet

The dietary fibre in breadfruit helps reduce blood cholesterol by preventing its absorption in the gut and reduces obesity and blood pressure. It also helps protect the colon mucous membrane by warding off cancer-causing chemicals from the colon. Breadfruit is rich in vitamin C, thus helps in the resistance against infectious agents and harmful free radicals. The vegetable is also a great source of potassium, which helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

Unlike most others, the breadfruit tree yields about 200 fruits per season, making it one of the highest yielding trees of all!

These round/oval shaped vegetables feature textures ranging from smooth to rough and spiny. Contracting indeed! Some are even similar to the jackfruit.

To whip up a delicious Stuffed Roasted Breadfruit, take one medium-sized breadfruit and score around the stem, pulling the stem out of the vegetable. Fill the cavity with salt fish, spinach, chopped tomatoes and cheese. Then take the heart of the breadfruit that was cut out and cut it, leaving only enough to cover the top of the stuffed cavity. Brush the breadfruit with olive oil and bake in 3500 pre-heated oven for 40 minutes. Peel the roasted breadfruit and then split it in half, using the halved breadfruit as bowls for the filling. Slice like potato wedges and serve with a mixed green salad. And, wait for the applause!
